The first trailer for the long-awaited Alita: Battle Angel was surprisingly released. The project is one of James Cameron’s longest in-development films, and the cast and effects certainly show it. Starring Rosa Salazar, Christoph Waltz, Jennifer Connelly, and Mahershala Ali, the film is about Alita, a cyborg with a forgotten past, found and brought back to life by cyber-doctor Ido (Christoph Waltz). The movie is based on the manga series by Yukito Kishiro.
Visionary filmmakers James Cameron (AVATAR) and Robert Rodriguez (SIN CITY) create a groundbreaking new heroine in ALITA: BATTLE ANGEL, an action-packed story of hope, love and empowerment. Set several centuries in the future, the abandoned Alita (Rosa Salazar) is found in the scrapyard of Iron City by Ido (Christoph Waltz), a compassionate cyber-doctor who takes the unconscious cyborg Alita to his clinic. When Alita awakens she has no memory of who she is, nor does she have any recognition of the world she finds herself in. Everything is new to Alita, every experience a first.
As she learns to navigate her new life and the treacherous streets of Iron City, Ido tries to shield Alita from her mysterious past while her street-smart new friend, Hugo (Keean Johnson), offers instead to help trigger her memories. A growing affection develops between the two until deadly forces come after Alita and threaten her newfound relationships. It is then that Alita discovers she has extraordinary fighting abilities that could be used to save the friends and family she’s grown to love. Determined to uncover the truth behind her origin, Alita sets out on a journey that will lead her to take on the injustices of this dark, corrupt world, and discover that one young woman can change the world in which she lives.

Taking a break from the fast-paced Tekken series, Bandai Namco announced at last night’s Game Awards that Soul Calibur VI would be coming in 2018. The first trailer can be seen above, but not information is known beyond that.
Stay tuned for more on Soul Calibur VI.
Hideo Kojima debuted an extended (extremely extended) new look at his long-awaited first solo entry, Death Stranding. The footage is incredibly insane, with giant invisible shadow creatures that defy gravity, a pregnant Norman Reedus, a good amount of futuristic technology, and a still mysterious story.
The game has no release date, but stars Norman Reedus and Mads Mikkelsen. Stay tuned for more information over the course of the next year, as it becomes available.
Nintendo announced last night The Game Awards that Bayonetta 3 was officially announced for the Nintendo Switch, as being in development by Platinum Games. Platinum Games was put on the map with its original Bayonetta for its stylish gameplay and memorable main character. The second game was a Wii U exclusive, and one of the consoles most successful releases.
In addition to the announcement, it was also revealed that Nintendo would be releasing Bayonetta 1 & 2 on the Nintendo Switch, in a compilation collection.
The first official trailer for Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom is now online, and it shows quite the extinction level event, that’s for sure. The new film sees Owen (Chris Pratt) and Claire (Bryce Dallas Howard), the protagonists from the first film returning to the help the dinosaurs when a dormant volcano on the island begins to erupt. Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom hits theaters June 22nd.
It’s been four years since theme park and luxury resort Jurassic World was destroyed by dinosaurs out of containment. Isla Nublar now sits abandoned by humans while the surviving dinosaurs fend for themselves in the jungles.
When the island’s dormant volcano begins roaring to life, Owen (Chris Pratt) and Claire (Bryce Dallas Howard) mount a campaign to rescue the remaining dinosaurs from this extinction-level event. Owen is driven to find Blue, his lead raptor who’s still missing in the wild, and Claire has grown a respect for these creatures she now makes her mission. Arriving on the unstable island as lava begins raining down, their expedition uncovers a conspiracy that could return our entire planet to a perilous order not seen since prehistoric times.
The long-standing supporting cast for Shazam!, arguably just as important as the title character himself is starting to finally take its full shape. Jack Dylan Grazer (It) has been cast as Freddy Freeman according to Deadline.
Grazer’s Freddy Freeman is said to be “Batson’s best friend and the only person who knows the truth about Shazam.” DC fans will know that Freeman eventually suits up as a hero himself, taking on the mantle of Captain Marvel Jr. in the comics. Shazam! is set to hit theaters in 2019, and also stars Zachary Levi as the titular superhero, Asher Angel as Billy Batson, Mark Strong as Doctor Sivana, and Grace Fulton.
I never thought I would be typing that title, but it’s true. The Hollywood Reporter has learned that Deadpool star Ryan Reynolds has signed on to voice the title character in Legendary’s upcoming live-action adaptation of the Pokémon video game, Detective Pikachu.
Reynolds will headline a cast that features up-and-comers Justice Smith (Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom) and Kathryn Newton (Supernatural). Rob Letterman (Goosebumps) is directing the film with a script from Alex Hirsch (Gravity Falls) and Nicole Perlman (Captain Marvel, Guardians of the Galaxy). Filming is expected to begin mid-January in London.

Another minimal week for comic books, as many of the larger events have gone on a brief hiatus for the Holidays. Metal is back next week (but I won’t be, more on that this week), which is great. The big two of Superman and Batman were a large focus this week, with the lone exception being the bonkers Neal Adams-penned Deadman.
The status quo of Superman and Lex Luthor finally nears its completion, with Lex turning his back on the symbol of hope that is Superman’s S logo. On the other hand, Apokolips is ruled by Superman, and he guides the cursed planet to a new and brighter hope of being lead by its people. This accomplished a great deal of large story points, and that’s the best thing a story like this can hope for.
This was absolutely one of the greatest comic books I have ever read. It was so charming, and put the friendships and relationships that drive Batman and Superman on full display in the most wonderful and realistic fashion. The two complete opposite heroes put their hearts on their sleeves when they were alone with the ones they love and it made for such an amazing, and truly funny moment. This is absolutely a must-buy for any one who is fan of either of these characters.
These Neal Adams Deadman books are absolutely batshit insane, in both the best and worst way. They’re wildly confusing with the art being all over the place and the story moving at breakneck speed. Once you’re able to slow the story down it makes more sense, and becomes a masterpiece. The inclusion of all of these mystical characters, such as Etrigan, the Phantom Stranger, and the Spectre are all making this more and more interesting.
This book is such a wonderfully written piece of Elseworlds that I wish it was released bi-weekly, and forever. This world is rich with such interesting character design, and progression that seems all too natural. Now, the second Harley is Neo-Joker and Jack Napier is geniusly pulling the string, but to what end? His intentions are to ruin the Batman, of course, but does he really want to save the city, or destroy it? So many questions. As the Hatter would say, “curioser and curioser.”
Capcom hosted a Mega Man (Rock Man) 30th Anniversary stream on Twitch this morning, and as expected unveiled some pretty great Mega Man news, with our first proper entry into the series in several years. Mega Man 11 is set to hit Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC late next year, and our first trailer is above.
On top of that, a Mega Man X collection was also unveiled featuring the entire Mega Man X series for players to revisit.
Earth Defense Force 5 releases in just over a week in Japan, and D3Publisher has released a new trailer in the form of a news program from the EDF News, and a recruitment video for the Earth Defense Force. The trailer gives us more information regarding playable units in the game, as well as a bit more on the story itself.
Earth Defense Force is one of the more endearing game franchises with a random but timeless theme, and one of the few that seems to get better and better as consoles grow and become more powerful.
Just in case there was any doubt, Netflix has confirmed that Stranger Things will be getting a third season, possibly as soon as Fall 2018. The company made the announcement on Twitter after submitting a poll asking fans whether or not the show should be renewed. “For the love of Steve, duh,” the tweet reads. “So hold tight baby darts — season three is officially happening.”
Stranger Things’ second season debuted October 28th to massive critical acclaim, and record streaming numbers. Ross Duffer stated that they envisioned the second season as a movie sequel rather than a traditional followup. “I told Matt, ‘I don’t want to call it season two, I just want it to feel like a movie sequel,’” Ross said. “If you have a successful movie, No. 2 is always a little bit bigger.”
