New Punisher Trailer Reveals Premiere Date

Marvel Studios and Netflix have finally revealed the latest trailer for Marvel’s The Punisher, that also includes our first premiere date for the series, which is officially set for November 17th, 2017.

The latest trailer reveals plenty more about the story for the series, revealing how Frank Castle was used by the military, and his family was killed to get to him, covering it up as a gang shooting. It looks ultra-violent, and like it’s going to be one hell of a ride.

New Comic Books: October 18

NEWCOMICS

DROWNED
This was probably the most by-the-book Metal tie-in yet, with The Drowned’s origin being almost exactly what I expected, with no real crazy set-pieces or anything to wow the reader. It was still an OK read, but not quite up-to-par with its brothers to this point, though it was cool to see the first gender-reversed Dark Knight of the bunch.
PHASMA
After building her up to be more of an anti-hero, with sympathy on her side, and a hint of caring in her character, the final issue of this Captain Phasma mini-series saw fit to tear her back into a cold and calculated villain that is ruthless and driven in her desire to cover the error that she was forced to commit. I wasn’t expecting that gut-punch but that’s exactly what made it so powerful, and restored her resolve to the First Order.
BM
The moment when Alfred revealed to the Bat-Family that Bruce had asked Selina to marry him will probably be one of my favorite in all of comics this year. Also, the pre-emptive measure that the two of them would attack Talia Al’Ghul before she inevitably attacks them is just really well thought out storytelling. Not to mention, Catwoman and Talia going head-to-head is going to be one hell of a fight. I hope it pays off.
SM
For some reason, it’s charming to see Lex Luthor genuinely being a good guy and working alongside Superman. It actually seems to fit him for some reason. As usual, though, things seem to have gotten a bit out of his control, with Apokolips coming to claim him as their rightful king. I wonder what Baby Darkseid has to say about this? The Trinity seem to be inching closer and closer to another showdown with the ruler of the Anti-Life Equation, and I’m into it.
JL
The finale to the Legacy arc was just as good as I had hoped it would be. The revelations that came out of this, with Diana’s abandoned son being born out of the darkness that was attacking them now, and the Lantern children basically single-handedly taking it out with their mastery of the Spectrum. That was awesome. Part of me wishes that the kids would get their own book at this point. A spin-off of a future dystopian Justice League, with them rebuilding their world after Sovereign and the darkness was destroyed in the present.
THOR
You read that right. Marvel Legacy has reset the numbers of major titles to their original numbering, with The Mighty Thor hitting back at its 700th issue, with a massive beginning to the arc that we’ve been headed towards for almost 2 years, now. The Death of Thor, and the War of the Realms. This was a fantastic massive issue, and Jason Aaron proved once again that he’s the most prolific writer that Marvel has on payroll.

Ryan Potter Cast as Beast Boy

bb

DC Entertainment has announced that fan-favorite actor, Ryan Potter, has joined the cast of the live-action Titans series in the role of Beast Boy. However, this isn’t Potter’s first foray into the superhero genre, as he voiced Hiro Hamada in the Big Hero 6 animated film, as well as its upcoming television series.

Potter joins an ensemble cast that includes Anna Diop (24: Legacy) as Koriand’r/Starfire, Brenton Thwaites (Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales) as Dick Grayson/Robin, Teagan Croft (Home and Away) as Raven, Minka Kelly (Friday Night Lights) as Dawn Granger/Dove, and Alan Ritchson (Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles) as Hank Hall/Hawk.

Dragon Ball Fighter Z Gets Release Date in Japan

dbz

Bandai Namco shared a few updates on Dragon Ball Fighter Z in the latest issue of V-Jump with a release date for Japan, as well as the reveal of two new characters: Nappa, and Captain Ginyu. V-Jump reveals that Nappa who can summon Saibamen and his Meteor special attack is Kapa, the mouth-energy-beam attack from the show.

The other new character is Captain Ginyu, who comes with the ability to call the members of The Ginyu Force. His Meteor special attack is Body Change, which, similarly to the show, allows him to swap bodies and health with opponents. Dragon Ball Fighter Z releases in Japan on February 1st, 2018, in Japan for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC. The game is expected to release in early 2018 in North America, and Europe.

Front-Runners for Detective Pikachu Emerge

pika

It was recently confirmed that a live-action adaptation of the popular Great Detective Pikachu was in the works, after the success of Pokemon GO. Since then, Legendary has announced a partnership with The Pokemon Company to bring it to the screen, and Rob Letterman (Goosebumps) would direct the film.

Now, it’s come to light a few of the front-runners the studio would like to land for the film. Those names are… ridiculous, to say the least, with Hugh Jackman, Ryan Reynolds, and Dwayne Johnson, all in line for the role. It would appear they’re still going for that gruff voice.

Han Solo Spin-Off Film Gets a Title

solo

We’ve speculated for the longest time what the Untitled Han Solo Film will be officially titled, and with so many options to choose from, it only makes sense that my choice was right. Director Ron Howard took to his Twitter to announce that the film will be officially titled Solo: A Star Wars Story.

The official logo for the film can be seen above, with what somewhat seems like the most bland branding, ever.

Second Black Panther Trailer and Poster

Marvel Studios has posted the incredible second trailer for the upcoming Black Panther, and it builds further on the rivalry between T’Challa (Chadwick Boseman) and Erik Killmonger (Michael B. Jordan), as well as the mysteries of Wakanda itself.

This is easily one of my most anticipated films for the next year, and it looks like it’s going to be a visual spectacle, with some incredible performances, from some of the best actors Marvel has managed to put on screen. You can hit the jump for a look at the full new poster, as well.

The Addams Family Getting an Animated Film

addamsfamily

The cult-classic Spooky family is making a return to Hollywood, with an animated film on the way from the co-director of Sausage Party, Conrad Vernon. He is joined by screenwriter Pamela Pettler, whose credits include Corpse BrideMonster House, and 9, clearly a fan of the spooky genre.

Currently, there are no details on release date or story possibilities, but given the family’s rich history from a classic animated series, movies, and years of comic strips, there’s plenty of good stuff to choose from.

Wonder Woman 2 Starts Shooting Next Summer

WW

Wonder Woman 2 is reportedly set to start filming next summer in time for its December 2019 release date, with rumors pointing to the film taking place during the 1980’s Cold War era. This would line up nicely with a Wonder Woman trilogy that leads to her in the Present Day, post-Justice League in her third film.

The most interesting news here, however, is that Chris Pine’s Steve Trevor is set to return for the sequel. There’s no word on whether this is through flashbacks, or a mysterious return of sorts, but we’ll know more in time.

Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom Trailer Hits in December

JW

This weekend’s Brand Licensing Europe 2017 convention gave us a big scoop from the quiet set of Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom. The first teaser trailer for the film is set to release on December 13th, and will then be attached to showings of Star Wars: The Last Jedi.

We’ve seen nothing from the film thus far, but after the wildly successful first installment, there’s quite a bit of anticipation.

Xbox Backward Compatibility Hitting Before Year-End

xbox

Fans of the original Xbox have been chomping at the bit since this year’s Electric Entertainment Expo, when Microsoft unveiled backward compatibility with the first Xbox, and it’s library of cult-classic titles. Since then, we’ve heard little in the way of BC announcements aside from the initial Crimson Skies, and Fusion Frenzy.

Fortunately, in an interview with GameSpot, Xbox head Phil Spencer has assured everyone that things are still going according to plan. “We’re close, we’re really close,” he says before confirming that means backward compatibility should launch by the end of the year. Microsoft has been going all-in on the release of the Xbox One X next month, so we should expect to hear something shortly after launch.
