To celebrate the upcoming release of the much-anticipated Metroid: Samus Returns for the Nintendo 3DS, Nintendo has announced a new “Samus Edition” of the New Nintendo 3DS XL that will hit select retailers on September 15th, alongside the game.
The new system features dueling front and back faceplates featuring iconic artwork of Samus aiming her plasma cannon. Hit the jump to get a full look at the system, and the box art.

Be prepared to despair, and throw a fit, and be very disappointed with the world. While North America is getting a Collector’s Edition of Metroid: Samus Returns, Europe will be enjoying the spoils of this newly announced Legacy Edition.
The version of the game includes the game, soundtrack, art-book, collector coin, morphball keychain, and a retro-inspired steelbook. Look at that steelbook! I would spend at least $80 on this edition. Metroid: Samus Returns releases on September 17.
It looks as if Nintendo wasn’t quite finished announcing games after their E3 Spotlight (Check out full coverage here). Metroid Prime 4 was just announced this morning, and now the company has announced a second new Metroid game, this one is a remake of the classic Metroid: Samus Returns.

Nintendo is taking a strange approach to their announcements, but this spread-out strategy is most certainly effective for keeping the buzz going.
