Marvel’s Shang-Chi Finds its Director

The upcoming live-action adaptation for Marvel’s Shang-Chi is taking a massive step forward to becoming a reality today, as Deadline has learned that Destin Daniel Cretton (The Glass Castle) has been tapped to helm the upcoming film. The report stresses that Marvel is looking to take a similar approach to Shang-Chi as it did with Black Panther, putting a strong emphasis on cultural mainland China and its traditions and customs. The film will also include a predominantly Asian cast, marking Marvel’s first Asian lead film.

Cretton’s previous credits include a collaboration with Captain Marvel star, Brie Larson, and he will be directing the film from a script by Wonder Woman 1984 writer, David Callaham.
