Javier Bardem Cast in The Little Mermaid

The final piece of the puzzle for the quickly growing cast of the live-action adaptation for The Little Mermaid has been found, as DisInsider is reporting that Javier Bardem (Skyfall) has been cast as Ariel’s stern Father, King Triton. He joins a cast that includes Halle Bailey, Harry Styles, Awkwafina, Jacob Tremblay, and Melissa McCarthy.

With production set to begin early next year, expect more news for the upcoming film at this year’s D23 Expo, as it figures to be a large part of Disney’s future slate of films.

The Little Mermaid Finds its Ariel

The news keeps on coming for the live-action adaptation of The Little Mermaid, as The Hollywood Reporter has word that up-and-coming actress and singer Halle Bailey (Grown-ish) has landed the lead role of Ariel in director Rob Marshall’s upcoming live-action remake of the animated classic. She joins Melissa McCarthy as the villainous sea-witch Ursula, and Jacob Tremblay and Awkwafina as Flounder and Scuttle, respectively.

Lin Manuel-Miranda is working alongside composer Alan Menken to create several new songs for the film, and more news is expected at this year’s D23 Expo.

The Little Mermaid Cast Continues to Grow

The cast of the newly announced live-action The Little Mermaid continues to grow with the earlier news of Melissa McCarthy being cast as Ursula, along with new additions Jacob Tremblay (The Room) set to play Flounder, and Awkwafina (Ocean’s 8) signing on to play Scuttle the seagull.

With no release date currently set, and Zendaya rumored to be up for the role of Ariel, it’s likely we’ll learn more at this year’s D23 Expo.

Melissa McCarthy in Talks to Star in The Little Mermaid

Disney continues to push forward with its numerous live-action adaptations as The Hollywood Reporter has revealed that Melissa McCarthy (Can You Ever Forgive Me?) is in early talks to play the villainous Ursula in the live-action The Little Mermaid. She is the first star in talks, currently, but it’s being rumored that Zendaya (Spider-Man: Far From Home) is in talks to play Ariel, as well.

Lin Manuel-Miranda (Mary Poppins Returns) is also working alongside composer Alan Menken to produce several new songs for the film, as well.
