The first trailer for the upcoming DC Universe animated film, Batman: Gotham by Gaslight, is now online, giving us our first look at the crisp animation and stellar voice-acting of the steampunk thriller. In the film, Batman is created in a Victorian-era Gotham City to combat the rising threat of Jack The Ripper as he stalks the city at night.
The film features Bruce Greenwood reprising his role as Batman from Batman: Under the Red Hood and Young Justice. Batman: Gotham by Gaslight is set to release next year.
With confirmation coming months ago, that Gotham by Gaslight, an adaptation of Brian Augustyn and Mike Mignola’s classic Elseworlds tale, was the next animated film on the table, we now have a first look at the upcoming title. It’s quite a first look also, with the video above clocking in at a whopping 8 minutes, with a ton of first look footage, and commentary from the crew.
Gotham by Gaslight takes place in alternate universe with Bruce Wayne living in Gotham in the 1800’s, and becoming the Batman to take on Jack the Ripper as he ravages the city.
An image making the rounds on Reddit has confirmed that Gotham by Gaslight, the first book in the legendary Elseworlds line of graphic novels from DC Comics, is getting the animated treatment (finally).
Gotham by Gaslight is written by Brian Augustyn with art by Mike Mignola, and sees a late-19th century Bruce Wayne take up the cowl to fight crime after meeting Sigmund Freud. The story follows his hunt for Jack the Ripper from Gotham City to London.
