What a whirlwind this has been. After the announcement that Daniel Craig was returning for one more James Bond film, amidst all of his negative energy during promotion for the last film, we were all wondering who would grab the director’s chair. There was a rumor that Nolan would take it, among others. However, it looks like Academy Award winner Danny Boyle (Slumdog Millionaire, 127 Hours) has taken the job.
Yesterday, Boyle addressed the reported rumors of his involvement with Bond 25 in an interview with Metro US in which he mentioned he’s currently in the process of developing a script, alongside Trainspotting’s John Hodge penned by Richard Curtis.
It’s been a roller coaster of ups and downs, will he’s, and won’t he’s, in the case of Daniel Craig returning as James Bond for the 25th film in the franchise. Now, thanks to the man himself, we have confirmation. Daniel Craig is set to reprise the role of James Bond in Bond 25.
The actor confirmed the casting last night on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, returning for his fifth time to the character. Bond 25, which currently remains untitled, hits US theaters on November 8th, 2019.
Producers Michael G. Wilson and Barbara Broccoli, EON Productions and Gary Barber, Chairman & CEO, Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Inc. announced today James Bond will return to U.S. theaters on November 8th, 2019, for its 25th installment. The film will release earlier in European territories, as usual.
No details about the film have come to light, though Neal Purvis and Robert Wade, long time collaborators and writers on previous Bond films including Casino Royale, Quantum of Solace, Skyfall and Spectre, will return. Rumors have circulated for several weeks, now that Daniel Craig has been offered a sizable fortune to return one last time to the role.
Depending on how you view the franchise, currently, you can either breathe a sigh of relief, or throw your hands up in the air. Daniel Craig is reportedly set to return for one final James Bond film, the his fifth in the role, and the 25th to date. While not entirely set in stone, the consensus is that he’s fairly secured, after being wooed back to the role (probably with a mountain of money). Craig was famously adamant about never returning to it after the disaster that was Spectre.
It’s also being reported that singer Adele is being courted to return to the franchise, as well. Adele famously sung the theme for Skyfall, the most profitable Bond film ever made, and the only theme to win a Grammy and Golden Globe.
