Entertainment Weekly has given us our first look at new images from the upcoming live-action adaptation of Aladdin, from director Guy Ritchie (Sherlock Holmes). The images give us our first looks at Aladdin (Mena Massoud), Jasmine (Naomi Scott), and we finally get a glimpse of the Genie played by Will Smith. Smith certainly has the biggest shoes to fill, and he had this to say about the character:
“Whenever you’re doing things that are iconic, it’s always terrifying. The question is always: Where was there meat left on the bone? Robin didn’t leave a lot of meat on the bone with the character. I think it’ll stand out as unique even in the Disney world. There hasn’t been a lot of that hip-hop flavor in Disney history. I like the fact that our Genie has an ego and is a little bit vain and he cares about how he’s presented because he’s been doing this for a very long time.”
You can hit the jump to check out the first official photos from the film, and see it when Aladdin hits theaters on May 24th, 2019.
UPDATE: Additional images have been released! Check them out after the jump.
Disney has revealed the first incredible teaser trailer for its upcoming live-action adaptation of Aladdin, directed by Guy Ritchie (Sherlock Holmes). The first trailer gives very little in the way of footage, but we get our first look at Mena Massoud (Jack Ryan) as Aladdin, as well as the Cave of Wonders, which now appears to be lion rather than a tiger.
Aladdin also stars Naomi Scott (Power Rangers) as Princess Jasmine, Marwan Kenzari (Murder on the Orient Express) as Jafar, and Navid Negahban (Homeland) as the Sultan.
Disney has revealed the first official teaser poster for the upcoming live-action Aladdin adaptation, giving us a tease of Will Smith’s genie and the iconic lamp. Mena Massoud and Naomi Scott star alongside Will Smith as Aladdin and Jasmine, respectively, with the film releasing in 2019.
It’s possible that we could see a full trailer, soon, with Disney have plenty of upcoming films they could attach it to, including Ralph Breaks The Internet, and Mary Poppins Returns. Hit the jump to check out the poster in full.
USA Today has debuted three new images from the upcoming Ralph Breaks the Internet: Wreck-it-Ralph 2, that feature our first look at several new characters and some incredibly returning ones, as well.
Not only do we meet two internet-based characters that will be debuting in the film, but we get our first look at Vanellope Von Schweetz crashing a meeting between every Disney Princess that’s ever been put on the film by the House of Mouse. Hit the jump to check out all of the new images.
It’s no secret that Disney has been working on getting a live-action Aladdin film off the ground for quite some time, with casting issues being the prime onus on the film. However, it would seem that Disney has worked out the kinks, with a few rumors coming to fruition in this case.
Mena Massoud (Jack Ryan) has been cast as the lead role of Aladdin, with Naomi Scott (Power Rangers) taking the role of Jasmine. The Genie is the surprise here, as Will Smith has been cast in the role of wise-cracking magical being. The film is also said to take inspiration from the animated film, as well as 1,001 Arabian Nights, so it should be a fun adventure film.
