Alan Tudyk to Voice Iago in Aladdin

Continuing his run as the busiest man in Hollywood, Disney has revealed that the venerable Alan Tudyk (Doom Patrol) will voice Jafar’s trusty parrot, Iago, in the upcoming live-action adaptation of Aladdin. Iago was a fairly prominent character in the original animated film, with Gilbert Gottfried’s performance being just as iconic as Robin Williams’ Genie.

Both Alan Tudyk and Will Smith will have some pretty hefty shoes to fill when Aladdin hits theaters on May 24th, but given the most recent trailer, things are looking a little brighter than expected.

Full Aladdin Trailer Now Online

As its release inches closer and closer, many were beginning to wonder if we were ever going to see anything more… final, from the upcoming Guy Ritchie-directed adaptation of Aladdin. Now, we have our first good look at the film, including many of its iconic songs.

After the mixed response of the previous footage, this is a massive step-up in terms of quality and design. Aladdin hits theaters on May 24th.

Disney Reveals Special Look at Aladdin

Disney has released a special look at the upcoming live-action adaptation of their animated classic, Aladdin, giving us our first look at Will Smith’s giant blue Genie in action for the first time. While the CG is still a little rough, it’s clear there’s much more work to be done. It looks like Disney’s Aladdin is going to be cutting it close come release day when all is said and done.

A thrilling and vibrant live-action adaptation of Disney’s animated classic, “Aladdin” is the exciting tale of the charming street rat Aladdin, the courageous and self-determined Princess Jasmine and the Genie who may be the key to their future. Directed by Guy Ritchie, who brings his singular flair for fast-paced, visceral action to the fictitious port city of Agrabah, “Aladdin” is written by John August and Ritchie based on Disney’s “Aladdin.”

Aladdin hits theaters on May 24th.

First Look at Guy Ritchie’s Aladdin

Aladdin

Entertainment Weekly has given us our first look at new images from the upcoming live-action adaptation of Aladdin, from director Guy Ritchie (Sherlock Holmes). The images give us our first looks at Aladdin (Mena Massoud),  Jasmine (Naomi Scott), and  we finally get a glimpse of the Genie played by Will Smith. Smith certainly has the biggest shoes to fill, and he had this to say about the character:

“Whenever you’re doing things that are iconic, it’s always terrifying. The question is always: Where was there meat left on the bone? Robin didn’t leave a lot of meat on the bone with the character. I think it’ll stand out as unique even in the Disney world. There hasn’t been a lot of that hip-hop flavor in Disney history. I like the fact that our Genie has an ego and is a little bit vain and he cares about how he’s presented because he’s been doing this for a very long time.”
You can hit the jump to check out the first official photos from the film, and see it when Aladdin hits theaters on May 24th, 2019.
UPDATE: Additional images have been released! Check them out after the jump.

Aladdin Cast Announced

aladdin

It’s no secret that Disney has been working on getting a live-action Aladdin film off the ground for quite some time, with casting issues being the prime onus on the film. However, it would seem that Disney has worked out the kinks, with a few rumors coming to fruition in this case.

Mena Massoud (Jack Ryan) has been cast as the lead role of Aladdin, with Naomi Scott (Power Rangers) taking the role of Jasmine. The Genie is the surprise here, as Will Smith has been cast in the role of wise-cracking magical being. The film is also said to take inspiration from the animated film, as well as 1,001 Arabian Nights, so it should be a fun adventure film.
