After a series of ups and downs since the departure of Danny Boyle, it seems that MGM has found its director for the Daniel Craig-starring Bond 25. Cary Joji Fukunaga (True Detective, Beasts of No Nation) will step behind the camera for the 25th film in the James Bond franchise. Production is set to begin on March 4th, 2019 for a February 14th, 2020 release.
“We are delighted to be working with Cary. His versatility and innovation make him an excellent choice for our next James Bond adventure,” said Michael G. Wilson and Barbara Broccoli.
Depending on how you view the franchise, currently, you can either breathe a sigh of relief, or throw your hands up in the air. Daniel Craig is reportedly set to return for one final James Bond film, the his fifth in the role, and the 25th to date. While not entirely set in stone, the consensus is that he’s fairly secured, after being wooed back to the role (probably with a mountain of money). Craig was famously adamant about never returning to it after the disaster that was Spectre.
It’s also being reported that singer Adele is being courted to return to the franchise, as well. Adele famously sung the theme for Skyfall, the most profitable Bond film ever made, and the only theme to win a Grammy and Golden Globe.
