In a shocking about-face, Deadline is reporting that Marvel Studios and Disney have reinstated James Gunn as the writer and director of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. Several months after a manufactured controversy forced Disney to fire the much-loved director, Disney CEO Alan Horn has said he’s met with Gunn numerous times, and after discussion regarding his handling of the matter and public apology, the studio has opted to bring him back.
Backlash from all sides seem to have won out, as principle cast members of the previous Guardians of the Galaxy films, as well as Kevin Feige himself have stood up for Gunn in the time since. Gunn has since signed on to direct the upcoming reboot for The Suicide Squad starring Idris Elba and Margot Robbie, which still seems to be next on his busy docket.
Regardless of what happens next. It’s nice to have Gunn back at the helm of the franchise that he brought to critical acclaim.
