NEWCOMICS

THOR
This book has been so ridiculous. It’s lighthearted in a way that’s refreshing for Thor after the incredibly emotional ride that was Jane Foster’s tenure. Thor’s dysfunctional family at the heart of it all, as they slowly mend fences to bring an end to a war that’s raged on for actual years in comic book time. And now, with Hela restored to glory, Thanos steps in to break up a wedding? I love it.

This was a surprising follow-up to Bruce Wayne’s heart getting broken by Catwoman. Batman is out of his element, being emotionally damaged once again by opening himself up, and he takes it out on those around him, particularly the villains at his disposal, and now Bruce Wayne must pay the price, having his mistake put directly in front of him, and forced to confront his demons. Yet another interestlingly personal story for The Dark Knight.

Luthor’s plan is still so elaborate, and while it’s starting to take shape, and we’re getting answers for some questions, it’s still such a mystery. So, the baby was a reincarnated Turtle, fully attuned to the Still Force, the opposite of the Speed Force, and one of the mysteries of the Multiverse past the Source Wall. But, how does Luthor know so much? What is he trying to accomplish? Still so many questions!

That was not the ending I was quite expecting for Book One. It was a bit all over the place, with even more questions than answers. Fights that should have raged for more time were over in the blink of an eye, and the pacing was all over the place. Not the best ending, but hopefully it at least sets up more stories in the future for this world that they’ve created. This world of Monsters and Men.

Honestly, I feel as if this entire event, which has been fantastic, was building to that incredible splash page of the Rangers teleporting to their Command Center, like brightly colored shooting stars across the sky. Then, to see all these incredible Rangers in one place… it actually gave me goosebumps. That’s the reason I’ve been so into this story, and it’s finally coming to the beautiful climax I’ve been expecting.
