Last week, we covered the announcement for the new Judge Dredd focused television series, Mega-City One. Now, while speaking with the 2000ad Thrill-Cast, producer Brian Jenkins has stated that there have been talks with the man himself, Karl Urban, star of the recent cult-classic Dredd film. Urban has declared his love for the character in the past, stating he would more than love to come back for a sequel. Would he be so open to a series? His recent foray into television, Almost Human, was far from a success, but hopefully it hasn’t soured him on the experience.
We have had many conversations prior to this, about all sorts of things. He’s also very busy, a full-time professional actor. So we’re going to have some long and complicated conversations I would imagine, and we’ll see where we go. It’s too early to tell yet, but if we can use him and he’s available to us, then I think that would be absolutely brilliant. There’s always a possibility he will be busy, or that his schedule for other movies won’t allow — basically, we don’t know at this stage.
Given Urban’s busy schedule, it’s possible he may not be able to, but he’s shown an endearing love for playing the role of Judge Dredd. With the press tours for Thor: Ragnarok starting in a few months, we will likely hear from Urban himself, what the plan is moving forward.
