Neill Blomkamp’s Alien 5 is Dead?

What is sure (hopefully) to be the saddest news this week, Ridley Scott has went on record as saying that Neill Blomkamp’s Alien 5, set in the continuity after Aliens, is essentially dead. After Blomkamp posted some concept art of the project on Instagram, it single-handedly revived interest in the Alien franchise after the disaster that was Prometheus. Now, Ridley Scott has stepped back into the picture and ripped the franchise from his younger counterpart with Alien: Covenant.

I think it will never see the light. There was never a scenario, just an idea that evolved into a pitch of 10 pages, I had to participate as a producer but it did not go any further because Fox decided that they did not want to do it. I had already done Prometheus and worked on Covenant. – Ridley Scott

Blomkamp is a visionary in Sci-Fi right now, with the creativity and originality just oozing from his films. You can see his passion for every project plainly on the screen, and I was very much looking forward to his vision for an Alien film. He absolutely would have knocked it out of the park, but it sadly looks like Scott just won’t step away, and has most likely pulled a power play with the studio on this one. That’s my thought, at least…
