The first official teaser trailer for Thor: Ragnarok is finally online, after months and months of waiting. This film has been in pre-production for some time, now, and it’s been strange to see how slow marketing has been to pick up. In all, with Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 coming out less than a month, I suppose it does make sense, though.
Speaking of Guardians, this trailer is going to seem pretty familiar to fans of the Marvel Cosmic team. The colors and costuming is so reminiscent of James Gunn’s fantastical world, which is absolutely on purpose. We’ve known for some time that Ragnarok is going to be the connecting tissue for the Guardians meeting the Avengers in Infinity War, and this absolutely supports that.
The trailer itself is fantastic. Cate Blanchett looks absolutely divine as Hela, and seeing her incredible helm actually brought to life is wonderful. Jeff Goldblum’s Grandmaster sounds just like Jeff Goldblum, which isn’t the worst thing in the world. Even Chris Hemsworth has a new look for his God of Thunder after being forced to enter the arena and fight: surprise, surprise… The Hulk! Planet Hulk is in full effect here, with Bruce Banner’s green alter-ego already clearly the star of the show in the arena, so who knows how long he’s been on Sakaar, the arena’s home planet, up to this point.
This was by far just a teaser trailer, with nothing more than introductions to some new major players in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. It will be interesting to see the more extended theatrical trailer in a few months.
